The iron rose is one of the most technically demanding small pieces in our workshop. Forming a convincing rose from flat steel stock — curling the petals correctly, layering them outward from a tight bud, getting the proportions right — requires patience and a skilled hand at the forge. The result is a flower that looks unmistakably like a rose while looking unmistakably like iron.
The Detail
Each petal is formed individually, heated and shaped at the anvil, then assembled layer by layer from the centre outward. The stem is a twisted iron rod, tapered toward the base. The leaves are hammer-formed flat iron, veined slightly by the tooling. The surface finish is oil-black with a natural dark patina — it does not rust, it does not tarnish, it does not need maintenance.
